DANIEL ZOLTAN NYIRI

Daniel Zoltan Nyiri (b. 1986, Rjukan) is an eco-agronomist, traveler, poet and meditator. His practice weaves together ecology, philosophy and art, with a particular focus on walking as a method for ‘bildung’, engaging cultural memory and developing ecological, conscious awareness.

Born and raised in Telemark, Nyiri now divides his time between organic farming in Vestfold, where he works mainly with tomatoes & cucumbers, and Tallåsen, his family farm in the hills of Tinn Austbygd with roots dating back to the 1600s. From an early age, his interests gravitated toward nature and meditation—leading him to the Buddhist Forest Hermitage in England at 18, and later ordination as a novice monk in Thailand. He is now firmly established in the Vajrayana tradition. Extended journeys on foot across Norway, the Far East and the European continent have since shaped both his poetics and cultural work.

In 2023 he joined the Rjukan Solarpunk Academy as content curator and concept developer. He is now the driving force behind The Artists Way project — a historic cultural path from Oslo to Rjukan that retraces the Romantic-era journeys of artists, scientists and upper-class tourists to the Gausta massif and Rjukan waterfall. By reviving this route in the age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Nyiri presents walking and ‘Friluftsliv’ as the new Grand Tour and ‘Bildungsreise’ of our time.

His recent practice includes collaborative solarpunk projects, eco-philosophical publications, a pilgrimage across the length of the European continent, from Norway to Lisbon via Santiago in Spain, and published poetry collections. Across these fields, Nyiri seeks to cultivate metamodern and regenerative ways of thinking and living, bridging ancient traditions with future possibilities.
